Hi Fellas,

Well..... I havent posted in a bit... but.... have to say that the Coolit forum in general hardly have any traffic.... hmmmmm.... maybe the customer base has moved on to something else..... hmmm

But...... back to this thread...

I finally am going to go through the modification/upgrade to my Freezone..... The marble swirling in the tin can sound is driving me nuts... But I got the parts, in the fore mentioned posts, in.... a pump/res combo and a Danger Den MCP 775 cooling block....

Now the task of pulling the parts out.... pulling the mb out due to the new cooling block's retention assy.... (crap @#!@!$##) oh well....

I am going to try for this weekend if I get a good data and image backup of my system.

But I wanna show you my lap job on the Danger Den MCP cooling block. The reason I lapped this is because Not that it wasnt smooth.... it was pretty smooth.... the problem was that it was not completely flat... there was a high ridge down the middle of the block lengthwise... I checked this with a metal straight edge and sure enough... there was a high ridge down the middle... So I lapped using several different grit of wet/dry sand paper... This is my first ever lap job on a cpu cooling block.... I was thinking that I would do it too on my Q9550 but......... nah.... didnt have to cahones to do that one... heheheh

but here is the picture of the lapping. It is perfectly flat now...

That looks like a really good smooth shiny lapping job on your TDX 775 block..I had one of the same type Danger Den blocks for AM" and it also had the weld like ridge length wise across the block. Not very good really for the price of them.My new Swiftech GTZ block was mirror finish and totally flat.Plus the seal didn't leak like the Danger Den block I had..I suspect Danger Den are a little over rated.
Please post some photo's if possible of your Freezone modifications and rebuild..I'd be really interested to read your progress.
Are you just swapping out the pump and cpu block with new larger diameter tubing? Or are you adding a reservoir and water cooling radiator?
I have one of the old type Quad GPU Freezone and was thinking of taking off the 4 gpu blocks and replacing with one CPU block or a single large all in one 4870 ati or a 260 Nvidia waterblock.
Do you think the Freezone would handle a 4870 gpu? As they get very hot on air up to 100 oc which is very hot. I'm not sure the Freezone would cool it enough. What do you think?

hi far,

It took me a good while to "get'r dun...." (as Larry the Cable guy would say). My Danger Den MCP 775 is completely flat.

I sure hope it does not have any leaks as yours did.... that would be a bummer. I will have to make sure I have some teflon tape in the threads of all connections.

What I am doing is replacing the original pump with a new pump/resevour combo and replacing the original block with the new block. (both linked to the products in previous posts). As for the tubing.... I am keeping it the same, 1/4" ID. reason is that I dont want to have to figure out how to convert the ends of the TEC tanks's 1/4" ID to something larger like 3/8" or even 1/2".... It's just simple enough to use 1/4" ID size at the block and pump/res.

Now I had to make a mounting bracket so as I can mount my new pump/res because it wont mount like the original pump and the new pump/res is a wee bit bigger overall size. The difficult part is mounting all the stuff in my very confine interior of my desktop case. The bracket is done.....

The only thing left to do now is to backup my data and make an image of my main drive. Then I can start on the conversion. The crappy part is that I need to lift out my mb in order to take out the original cpu Coolit retention and install the new DD retention... BUT... I am really thinking about cutting a square hole at the bottom of my desktop where the retention mech would be and make a cover for it..... this will allow me to access the back side of the mb to get at the retention without removing the mb in the future. The removal of the mb and cutting the hole in the case is the real work of the project....

I'll definately post some pics.

My hopes is to at least keep the same cooling performance and at best increase the cooling performance.

The main reason I am going through this exercise is because my original pump is making the marbles swirling in the can noise.... it is very irritating. I had already rma the pump.... this is my second pump and it already getting the same noise as the original. Coolit sure does use substandard pumps for their products... no wonder their customers are having so much problems with these pumps....

As for your question if the Freezone be able to cool a 4870.... sure.. I believe it can. Your 4870 gets up to 100C? Or is that 100F? If it is Celcius... wow.... I have a Sapphire 4870 1gb with a non-ref air cooler... and it highest load temps only reach 58C. Idle temps around 48C.

well... I think if you have a spare Freezone.... go forth modding it to work on your 4870. Go for it...

MX5GG,

Please contact me directly with regards to your pump. Yes the Freezone Elite can chill one 4870, if you were to hook it up to two you would probably have problems.

OK..... if you were thinking about changing your pump and cooling block to a aftermarket unit..... DO IT !!!!

I walk away from this project very pleased... I have met both of my goals. Quiet and performance.

1. Quiet (primary goal) - After 9 months of operation it begins to rattle to a point that you can hear it over any noise going on... and that includes anything else within the room itself. it was irritating. By the way.... I am on my second Freezone due to the fiirst pump failing with the same pump noise issue. Now with the new pump/res combo..... i am in quiet bliss. The new pump/res combo unit is WAY Quieter (practically silent) than the Coolit Freezone's pump when it was new. Also, a big plus is that now when I need to top the fluids... I do not have to take the cooling system out (the fill port on the original pump is located on the side of the pump) but instead just have to uncrew a cap in the res unit and top her off. Oh how convenient.

2. Performance - This is a bonus... My idle temps has dropped overall wise by about 2~3C from the original setup. Now my Idle Temp is 29~30C. But the surprising result is my Load Temps.... My Load Temps is now 33~34C while HALO/BF2 gaming. This is around 5~6C drop from the original setup. These temps are from Real Temp utility. Oh by the way... while in Bios... the temp reads 14~15C. So it looks like the new DD cooling block is more efficient in getting that heat away from the cpu and transfer it into the liquid.

The pumps that Coolit are using are just not right.....
